These two were found on Highway One near the Big Sur Station. Hillary Thurkow Evan took them up to their place on Pfeiffer Ridge. Contact me at kwnovoa@mac.com for Hillary’s phone number. They have Monterey tags, but no name tags. The owners contacted Hillary the sane day they were found and dogs and owners have been reunited.

“Between Monday and Wednesday, this system is forecast to bring widespread rainfall totals of one inch with locally higher totals of two to three inches in the higher terrain. As this low is forecast to be off the San Francisco Peninsula Coast, cyclonic rotation will result in southwesterly flow into the Central Coast. As a result, the Santa Cruz Mountains and
Big Sur Coast are forecast to receive the most rainfall.” (Per NOAA on 10/11/2025) There is also the possibility of instability leading to lightning.
First big storm of the season — should be interesting for Regent’s Slide.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FULL OVERNIGHT CLOSURE OF HIGHWAY 1
AT ROCKY CREEK BRIDGE
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19 | 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
MONTEREY COUNTY — Caltrans will implement a full overnight closure of Highway 1 at Rocky Creek Bridge, located approximately 12 miles south of Carmel, beginning Sunday, October 19, at 10:00 pm. The highway will reopen by Monday morning, October 20, at 6:00 am.
The overnight closure marks the start of demobilization following the completion of major concrete placement work as part of the ongoing emergency seawall repair project beneath the Rocky Creek Bridge. The repairs strengthen the seawall’s ability to resist wave action and prevent future erosion, ensuring the long-term stability of this critical coastal route.

Closure Details:
The full closure will begin Sunday, October 19, at 10:00 pm, with the highway scheduled to reopen by Monday, October 20, at 6:00 am.
During the closure, a crane and other heavy equipment will be staged across both lanes, and no through traffic will be allowed during work hours. Travelers are advised to plan ahead and avoid the area during the closure period.
As Caltrans continues to complete this emergency project, additional lane and road closures may be scheduled in the coming weeks to wrap up work safely. Advance notice will be provided before any future closures.
Caltrans thanks the traveling public and local community for their patience and understanding as crews work to maintain the integrity of Highway 1.
Big Sur Remains Accessible and Open:
Travelers are reminded that over 100 miles of Highway 1 on the Big Sur coast remain open and accessible. Travelers from northern California will find easy access to historic bridges, waterfalls, restaurants, and lodging amenities.
Travelers from southern California will find that the highway brings them directly within reach of the unparalleled views, lodging amenities, and natural wonders of Lucia, the Camaldoli Hermitage, Gorda, Ragged Point, San Simeon, and Cambria.

The huge Oak tree that guards my house (which Jeff Norman said was a probably a hybrid between Coast and Canyon) is telling me something that I cannot quite understand. She has never spoken to me in this manner before, but is doing so loudly now. Usually, she speaks softly and gently. This has been loud with bings and bangs on my metal roof and suggestions I wear a hat when passing beneath her. Is she telling me that we are in for a wet winter? Or is she telling me she is threatened?
