  1. Take this one seriously! At 4pm, my wife called me from Carmel to warn me that it was blowing storm force gusts and sheet raining up that way, and to get ready for the worst. I passed the word on to Joyce Duffy as she was heading out, and hightailed it north myself. The steady rain started above Mill Creek, but the road was ok up through Big Sur (around 5 pm). But the real action began north of Point Sur. The howling winds and blinding rain came in waves. First near Little Sur, then at the top of Hurricane Point, and so on all the way to Carmel Highlands. The rain waves were nearly blinding, just as Jana warned.Same for the wind gusts. Now, at 7:30, we just finished a huge cloudburst of rain with screaming winds…estimated over 40kts.
Just before I left school, I checked the GOES satelite picture, and it showed the cyclone shaped like a perfect yin/yang! It was centered over the Sonoma Coast, and the dark zone of cold Arctic air (the yin), was pointed right at us. The white cloud “yang” of the counterclockwise-spinning subtropical Air was just to the east of us. The borderline was swinging right over Monterey Bay…coming at us like a rotor-blade! By this moment, I figure that it is cutting its swath through the Partington area, and will hit the South Coast in about an hour. Hang on!!!
