I remember guests from S. California visiting the Inn at Ventana, years ago.
She and her husband went for a canyon walk. She brought back a beautiful wreath of this “absolutely beautiful” red-leafed vine, and adorned her neck with it.
The results were stunning.

I was just commenting yesterday that the beautiful fiery red swaths on the mountainside ironically are poison oak!

I named my daughter August partly because I love the way everything looks and smells in Big Sur then. Oh and she has red hair too lol!

Similar to Ventana story…had a friend who worked at Robles del Rio in Carmel Valley. With an upcoming wedding, he added this beautiful “red vine” to the bridal party bouquets.
Just beautiful, all firey little fairy leaves.
