8:45 pm – home safe. Neighbor cut through large downed oak so I could get home. The wind is singing to me, beginning to sound like it might turn into a chorus, soon. Should be a fun night for those of us who are ready and hunkered down. I am.
MOVING ONTO RAINFALL ACCUMULATION…FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON…MOST VALLEY LOCATIONS WILL SEE BETWEEN AN INCH TO TWO INCHES OF RAIN…WITH THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS RECEIVING BETWEEN 2 AND 3 INCHES OF RAIN. HOWEVER…THIS WILL NOT BE THE CASE FOR THE BIG SUR COAST AS WELL AS THE SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS. THE SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAIN ARE FORECAST TO RECEIVE BETWEEN 3 AND 4 INCHES OF RAIN…WITH THE BIG SUR COAST RECEIVING BETWEEN 4 AND 6 INCHES OF RAIN. IT IS NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION THAT A FEW ISOLATED
AREAS ALONG THE BIG SUR COAST AND SANTA LUCIA MOUNTAINS MAY RECEIVE BETWEEN 7 AND 8 INCHES OF RAIN. FLASH FLOODING WILL BE POSSIBLE ALONG THE BIG SUR COAST FROM LATE TONIGHT UNTIL FRIDAYNIGHT.
That amount of rain fall is going to move rocks and wet clay onto the road surfaces.
If the wind blows down all the standing dead trees from the fire kill, it’s going to get really intense along the roads up here…nice time to be inside…
Just thought the same, Wally. And the trees the trees the trees the trees, keep a sharp eye out for those crashing rootless babies. Otherwise…..
wahooo the wetlands! We sure are getting some sky drama.
2″ in the Big Sur valley this a.m.
Monica here…Treebones …any word on the road conditions? I am not able to find any info….winds were Wild Last night! We have trees down
Definitely watch out for the trees as we had one hit our house last week. Luckily the headache rack on Jim’s truck was strong enough to break the fall & it was slow motion from there. We also had a huge Pine taken out yesterday that was dying, Probably 48″ at the butt & 70ft. tall. If it had gone down it would have taken down power lines & maybe part of a neighbors house!! Stay Safe out there!!
I haven’t been able to check myself. Got a report from my neighbor of a big, big tree down completely blocking my road, and who knows how many below that. USFS at PV Station can’t get to it because of the mud.
There is a big portion of the large oak on the flat down, and my phone is ringing strangely, so I wonder about phone lines further north. blew off a small roof of an outbuilding, and I am going to check and see what else.
Water line is broken, I think. Put out buckets which will be full pretty soon…
