Volunteers Needed to Preserve Big Sur Coast
Heavy Rains Quench Drought But Spur Explosion Of Invasive Species
Apr. 16, 2019 / PRZen / BIG SUR, Calif. — While winter rains have brought welcome relief to California’s drought conditions, they unfortunately are also fueling an explosion of nonnative plants that threatens Big Sur’s world-renowned natural resources. Nature Corps, a nonprofit volunteer conservation organization, is inviting individuals, families, and employee groups to stem this invasion by participating in a critical volunteer weekend scheduled for May 17-19, 2019.
The Big Sur coast of California is known as the “greatest meeting of land and water in the world,” and has been described as a “national treasure that demands extraordinary procedures to protect it.”
Volunteers are urgently needed to preserve Big Sur’s coastal mountain range where now smaller populations of nonnative flora are poised to overtake many acres of native habitat. Over time, these nonnatives will significant impact wildlife by reducing their sources of food and breeding habitat.

A glamping experience that includes cooking demonstrations and wine pairings?!?
Stacy, go watch the video on the Yosemite project. It is not “glamping,” it is definitely camping in tents, cooking over a campstove and/or campfire, but it does look like fun – as well as hard work.

silly me – I made tentative plans for May – might have to change them.
This actually sounds pretty neat! After a day of hard work and play, to have someone feed me fine food, wine and chocolate – WOW – I could go for that!
This also sounds like a good possible candidate for the list of “ethical, like-minded businesses” that Big Sur needs to build on and utilize to protect this beautiful place for the future.
This type of program may provide one of the “missing links” needed to cover the activities we grew up with (Scouting, family camping trips and the “Sunday drive” etc) that seemed to “disappear” with 2 income families and video games… all part of the “bigger is better” mentality that gripped so many people/families. The idea to have people “EDUCATED in an enjoyable activity” helps spread the right message, to the right people … the Future. I can just hear that little kid telling his friends ALL ABOUT IT.
And the seed is planted.

$295 When you break it down, that is not a bad price at all. A night out of “dinner and dancing” and a room….. and you’re not even in Big Sur?!!!? And instead of a “feel good” sunrise in Big Sur, you’re looking for the Advil. 🤣

No doubt The Alliance is by far the shining star here – fabulous program. This other program – have they ever done this here before?

Or bypass that and just Do your own “fund raising” version! Hell we got everything in spades! Creative local chefs, superb wines and LOCATION BABY! LOCATION!

And they are a little weak on which invasive species are suddenly exploding. Maybe start with the Pampas Grass and Genista next to the highway and work towards the back-country for wine and hors d’oeuvres.

It’s a bit disappointing if they didn’t do their due diligence…😒
