Photo Sunday – Plaskett Aftermath, 9/27 (photos taken over the course of the last few days)

PLEASE; THE FOREST IS CLOSED. DO NOT ENTER. The land, the critters, and the people need time to heal. This is not the time to go camping, Big Sur is fragile and the residents are suffering PTSD. Please respect Big Sur and us and let us heal. The cause of this fire is till under investigation, but the likely cause is human — either directly or indirectly. Plaskett is burned on both sides of the road from very close to the highway all the way up. This is not an area that can support campers, tourists, or lookey-loos at the moment. Help Big Sur, don’t hurt her.

  1. So. So heartbreaking 💔. I send prayers to everyone who lives there near both fires. As a kid, I used to spend a lot of time on Plaskett ridge visiting Cy and Margaret and kids.

  2. Yep, that’s a whole lotta what it looks like on our road from the Timber Fire…
Getting ready to hunker down during the winter rains.

  3. I understand how you all feel.
Been over 5 years since “Dolan” fire and the wind event and intentional “ Big Box” back fire that day that surrounded us behind Cone peak.
    Burned everything that could burn.
    Killed heaps of wildlife.
Then the rains came and the healing began.
She will come back to life !
    Hang in there .

  4. Thanks so much for these..I particularly like the sign with the missing leg. So much green will return. Much love.

  5. The toyon have done very well after the Carmel Fire. And most of the oaks survived, even 100% burnt ones. 6 years in, and the brush is getting thick again.

  6. Timothy, it means a lot to hear from someone else who has been through it and watched the landscape change with the changing seasons. Thanks for your point of view.

  7. Every animal lost to a wildfire is a tragedy we cannot ignore. So much extreme sadness to these innocent creatures that call Big Sur their home. Channel your anger, and keep using your voice to prevent their home and lives from these preventable fires.

  8. liking the imaginative sign support…duck taped..
Has anyone spotted any online remarks eluting to someone online boasting they arson’d Sur ?Im not up to taking the time that might require. Yet my own deep dark place suggests its possible that the PinkRumpDump Society otherwise known as MAGA, has underground think tank resources madly employed at destroying the viable resources, both economical, as well as the treasures of wilderness . Flying incendiary drones, to destroy the wild of British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California, occured to me as one resource the present corrupt officers of war have at they’re fingertips.
