This is interesting Kate. The USFS has been clearing chaparral and other thicker ground brush near that spot. It looks as though they were clearing for pasture land or fuel break (or both). The clearing project took place on both sides of the highway and looks like about 40 acres total.

I have been asked by a few people about this so to clear it up, this was a burn pile. Below is the audio clip of the dispatch and report of conditions.
Thanks, Jon. That makes sense. I heard that USFS had been clearing about 40 acres in that area from a retired firefighter, so a burn pile makes sense. Did question why it got reported as a wildfire on WildCAD, but …
