Missing Dog – Palo Colorado Canyon-FOUND

STAR LILY IS HOME!!!

From Sofanya at the Dome House in Palo Colorado Rd:  sweet doggy STAR LILLY went missing (yesterday) I’m really really concerned! It’s possible she may have jumped into someone’s truck or something and got a ride into town or south to Big Sur…..if she jumps out somewhere she’d be disoriented. PLEASE everyone be on the lookout for her. She’s approx 60 lbs…adorable and sweet. She has a collar with info.
She’s a mix but mostly looks like a lab-pit mix.
Please message me right away if you find her or see her!

*Same information as last Monday*

FWIW, debris still falling on Thursday at Mud Creek when Rock Knocker and I passed through. Another large boulder, like the one surrounded by cones, is perched up above and has started to tilt, indicating it is ready to begin it downhill journey soon.

Parking for by-pass trail

Here is new parking information from State Parks. Please share widely:

Additional parking is now available in the Meadow adjacent to the Pine Ridge Lot at the Big Sur Station. Vehicles not currently parked in a designated parking space should move to a designated parking space ASAP. Parking will continue for residents by permit only. State Parks strongly encourages residents utilizing the lot to respect the natural environment. Parking off road and outside of a designated parking space will not be allowed starting 4/10/17. Vehicles parked off road and/or not in a designated parking space may be subject to citation after 4/10/17.

Incoming Storm, 4/6/17

“Area Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS…A potent late-season storm system will impact the region and result in widespread rainfall and strong winds beginning This evening and continuing into Friday morning. Breezy conditions and lingering showers will persist into Saturday before dry weather returns late Saturday. After a few days of dry weather, unsettled conditions potentially return by the middle of next week.” I have read predictions of anywhere between 4 and 10″ of rain in the Santa Lucia Mountains from this storm.

Do you know this bike and rider?

UPDATE: From CHP Spokesman, MC came to a complete stop at flagger, told him he was going to FHL and then accelerated rapidly and took off, hitting the flagger. See article here:

http://www.montereycountyweekly.com/blogs/news_blog/motorcycle-rider-injures-caltrans-worker-and-blows-past-checkpoint/article_f8d9c882-1a66-11e7-8585-3f397ae716b2.html

UPDATE; FROM THE BMW k1600 forum:

New Member Intro
Just saying hello…

Seeking a hit and run rider out here in Nor Cal who happened to be riding a newer white BMW k1600 and we’re pretty sure we know who he is at this point. We (local Law Enforcement) are pretty sure we know who he is and hope he does the right thing and turns himself in…

More info to follow…
******************************************

Sunday – CORRECTION, IT WAS MONDAY – this bike ran through Mud Creek without stopping for the flagger, Arlene, who radioed ahead to Mark, the second flagger. Mark tried to stop him, but was run over for his troubles, and suffered a dislocated shoulder.  Someone (Mark?) got this photo of the motorcyclist. If you know him, tell him to do the right thing and turn himself in, or call CHP, yourself. He is probably from the area, not necessarily “local” to Big Sur, as this bike has been seen before going north near the Elephant Seals and Piedras Blancas, says a bike officiano friend who recognizes this bike. I will see Mark, the flagger, later this afternoon, and clarify and verify what I have been told. But for now, BOLO.

UPDATE: FLAGGERS AT ANOTHER CONSTRUCTION SITE IN SLO RECOGNIZED THIS BIKE ON TUESDAY WHERE THEY TRIED TO STOP HIM. HE THEN RAN THROUGH THAT SITE. ALSO SEEN IN AREA OF CURBAIL AND EL CAMINO REAL IN ATASCADERO AND POSSIBLY ON N-F AND FHL ON SUNDAY. A FEW PEOPLE IN THE BIKING COMMUNITY ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR HIM, TOO, BUT OTHERS ARE DEFENDING HIM.

Hard Closure of By-pass Trail, 4/9/17

UPDATE: POSTPONED UNTIL 4/11/17.

The Pfeiffer Bypass Trail will have a hard closure on 4/9/17. This will be necessary due to a PG&E power pole rerouting. This rerouting will be done via helicopter and the area is adjacent to the trail. Hours of closure will be approximately 0800-1700 hrs. The closure will be staffed by State Parks at the north and south trail heads to allow for use when safe throughout the operational period. This operation may be postponed due to inclement weather.

Entangled Whale

From Monterey Bay Marine Life Studies

Expected along the Big Sur coastline this evening and tomorrow morning!

***ALERT:
An entangled gray whale that has a metal frame on its head was re-sighted off of Piedras Blancas, at 3:30pm today. We expect the whale to be off Pt. Pinos anytime from 3:15 pm on Thursday (4/6/17) through 3:15 am on Friday (4/7/17). It could be in Monterey Bay during the morning hours of Friday, 4/7/17 depending if it just crosses the canyon or if it hugs the shoreline in Monterey Bay. Please be on the lookout and share this post.

If you see this whale, DO NOT approach or try to disentangle it. DO stay with it: take photos and video, and note the location of the whale, the travel direction, whether it is solitary or with others, and its behavior (whether it is surfacing or diving, and the length of dive times) – and immediately call NOAA Entangled Whale Hotline 1-877-SOS-WHALE or hail USCG on CH 16.

Let us know if you are willing to stand by along the coast and search with binoculars. It could be off Pt. Lobos as early as 12:30 pm. Thursday, 4/6/17.

Trailer Hitch through Windshield

Yesterday on the 101. I was taken to the SJ Regional Center – Trauma Center. The 10-20# trailer hitch hit me in the shoulder. Amazingly, I only have lacerations, bruising, and a whole lot of pain…..but I am okay. 6″ further toward the driver, and I would be dead. My poor angels have always had to work overtime. I am truly blessed. Rock Knocker is with me, and the RV is at the windshield place.
