Photo Sunday, Mother’s Day 2022

I have always kept my politics off my blog and confined it to my facebook or twitter posts, but this day, after this week, I cannot. This is not something I can stand quietly by and watch. I must speak out, and loudly, in every platform I can. thus, todays photos are not the beautiful ones of my beloved Big Sur coast, but of women who have and are speaking out. On this day, I want to say that no one, NO ONE should be forced to become a mother by government entities — against her will. Happy Mother’s Day to all who gladly assume this heavy mantle.

”We must link arms in this fight. I invite all people to join us,” she said. “If you stand for freedom, for self-determination, for the right to privacy — if you stand for these principles, stand with us.” She added that “women’s issues are America’s issues. And democracies — democracies cannot be strong if the rights of women are under attack.” (Kamala Harris, 5/3/2022, at the annual gathering for Emily’s List.)

  1. We remember before Roe. Maybe it will take this lesson to awaken our younger sisters to the importance of standing together and getting out the vote.

  2. Thank you so much, Kate. We are still having to fight 50 years later.

  3. Kate, Thank You. I don’t yet know the smartest next step but being loud and confronting the issue sounds like a good start (but it won’t be enough – eventually the voting majority needs to take back our government instead of being beholden to a very focused and strategic minority).

  4. Thank you Kate! And everything I am reading says that the right won’t stop with abortion but will continue fighting against contraception, rights to marry who you want and civil rights around race. There are already crackpots trying to push legislation forcing women to have pregnancy tests before leaving their anti abortion states! If we don’t unify against this threat, we are going to lose it all. Not happy with a democrat candidate on the ballot? Too bad! If we split votes with far left challengers and lose, we don’t just lose an election, we lose rights to choice, equality and democracy itself.

  5. Right on, Miss Kate. My state, Oklahoma, has put womens rights, as well as voting rights, education rights, and any logical and equal rights, on the chopping block. This fight for equality is not going to end in a pretty fashion. The rightwingers have shown their hand and resolve. It’s time to do the same for our freedoms. Take care, and NEVER give up the good fight!

  6. All laws are signposts of a decline in social mores.

The same folks who want laws against women and those who help them want the government off their backs and out of their pants, er, pockets.

  7. First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me

    – German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemölle

  8. Could not have said it better myself. It seems so simple. Don’t want an abortion. Don’t have one. But get your opinion out of my business….
And Happy Mother’s Day dear Kate!!!

  9. A very good reason to speak out 100% agreement in this household!!

  10. Evangelical Totalitarianism is Livestock Management.
Becareful, the U.S. Supreme court has ruled law enforcment can lie and is not obligated to protect you.
