ROAD AND LANE CLOSURES SCHEDULED FOR May 21– May 27

MONTEREY COUNTY – Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, May 21 through Saturday, May 27 – newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

ALERT:

Highway 1: Southern Closure of Highway 1: Long – Term
The southern closure of Highway 1 is scheduled to move 21 miles north of Ragged Point on Friday, May 26, at 4 pm. The southern closure will be placed one half mile south of Paul’s Slide. There will be no parking at the turnaround area. Limekiln State Park will remain closed with entry into the Park strictly prohibited.

Crews working 12-hour shifts and seven days a week at Paul’s Slide anticipate that they will have a more refined estimate on the reopening of Hwy. 1 at that location by July 1. The current estimate for reopening Hwy. 1 at Paul’s Slide is several months.

Repairs also continue at the Dani Creek Slide, immediately north of Paul’s Slide, with work now estimated to be completed by mid-July.

Once the southern Hwy. 1 closure moves north, travelers on Hwy. 1 north of Ragged Point will encounter areas of intermittent traffic control as repairs to damage from winter storms continues at various locations.

Travelers are asked to anticipate these areas of intermittent traffic control and to reduce their speed and increase their awareness accordingly.

Additionally, travelers will encounter long-term signalized traffic control at 0.8 miles north of the San Luis Obispo/Monterey County line where slope stabilization work continues.

Highway 1 remains open through Morro Bay, Cambria, San Simeon, and the Ragged Point Inn, with all coastal San Luis Obispo County businesses open.

Highway 1 also remains open with full access to all coastal businesses for 50 miles from Monterey south to the Big Creek Vista area in Monterey County.
