Big Sur Branch Seed Library

I would like to announce that the Big Sur Branch Seed Library has been re-strategized and expanded to better serve the community. Its new focus is to improve Big Sur residents’ accessibility to vegetables, so the library will provide free seeds to library patrons with a library card and a Big Sur address on file. Peaceful Valley Farm Supply, High Mowing Seeds, and Seed Savers Exchange have donated a generous number of seed packets, all of which are non-GMO, organic, and many varieties are beautiful heirlooms (like Moon & Stars Watermelon!). We have received over 200 packets for you folks to peruse and take home to plant.

If you would like to access the seed library, visit the library and find me. Please request only what you will be able to plant this season so the seed varieties can be shared amongst all of our neighbors. I will divide up the seed packets upon request, but will have a handful of “featured seeds” pre-packaged. Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you at the library.

Best regards,

Justine

New Limekiln Bridge plans & info

Because these plans are dated June 2015, we can’t be 100% certain they are the latest version. It still should give you an idea of the purpose and scope of the project and the fact that only during the abutment transistion times will it require one-way signaling. Construction timeline is estimated between Summer 2025 to Winter 2028. My mystery map maker gets the credit for the find and compilation of this information. Thank you!

If you click on the images below, they should expand. A full PDF version with additional plans can be found here: Limekiln Creek Bridge Replacement Plans. The Complete Bridge Replacement Project Study Report can be found here.  The list of Projects In Development for Highway 1 (from Hwy. 46 to Carmel River) is here.

Next Storm…2/19/19

…is on the way, fortunately nothing like we have been having. From NWS:

“Rain/snow showers return to the region overnight and continue through early Thursday morning. Look for the most rainfall/snowfall to occur over the Central Coast while the San Francisco Bay Area receives lesser amounts.  Snow levels will be around 2,500-3,000 ft.”

Toppled Porta potty at Rocky Creek

And today, Monday, Presdient’s Day, it was retrieved.

You may have seen this at Rocky Creek. (Originally reported as Bixby, but Ken Wright informed me it was Rocky Creek.) I can’t find the email of the person who reported it to me yesterday, trying to find out who to report it to, but I contacted a number of my resources and Cal Trans has determined who the contractor is who placed the porta potty and they are arranging a date for its removal. Thank you for reporting this to me, and I apologize for not remembering who it was that did so.

Lost pup, Clear Ridge on Sunday – Found at Linda Parker’s on Fronthill!

Good afternoon. I am up visiting my parents in Big Sur (on Clear Ridge) and my dog has gone missing at around 2pm this afternoon. I am hopeful that you’d be willing to post a missing pup note on your blog so that anyone who might check it will be able to help get her back to us.
Her name is Bailey and she is an amazingly friendly brindle pitbull catahoula mix. She’s around 40lbs and is wearing a black collar as well as a grey flea collar. Neither of them have a tag on them but she’ll definitely respond when called. She went missing at the top of clear ridge at 2pm today (Sunday). She’s not one to run  away or even wander very far so Im imagining someone picked her up from the driveway entrance to my parents house or something else happened to her 🙁
The address to my parents house (Eduardo Eizner and Carolyn Shearer) is 46205 Clear Ridge Road. There are signs at both Pfeiffer beach entrance and the river inn entrance noting her disappearance.
My number is (831) 521-7165

Sunday Photos, 2/17/19

I arrived safe & sound last night, but Plaskett is trashed. RK made it through, but before 27+ years in Cal Trans, he was trained in the Army to be a Master Truck Driver Instructor, so he is a trained professional. Me? Not so much…okay, not at all! Photos from trip. I was glad I made the trip and got to say good-bye to my brother, see some of his friends, and to see his wife and her sisters.

You are with Mom and Dad, now, and some of your favorite dogs, RIP, cowboy.

MONTEREY COUNTY — Caltrans has received confirmation from National Weather Service (NOAA) data that the significant storms have passed in the areas of Mud Creek (PM 8.9) and Paul’s Slide (PM 21.6) on State Route 1 in the Big Sur area. As a result, Highway 1 at Mud Creek will re-open today, Friday Feb. 15 at 12 noon; Hwy. 1 at Paul’s Slide will re-open at 5 pm today.  Motorists will encounter traffic control at these locations today and tomorrow.
