Memorial Day Weekend Traffic

5:00 pm update. Another traffic accident when a car needed to be towed 3 miles south of Gorda. Apparently, a lucky driver joined the west of highway one club and his vehicle is 250 ft. down the cliff. The driver apparently suffered no injuries. Going to be a busy weekend. Glad I am up here!

Yesterday, there was a bad motorcycle accident near South Forty, up by Hurricane e Point. Today there is one down by the bottom of my road. This from CHP website:

Lots more holiday traffic on the roads means lot more opportunities for accidents. Drive carefully, out there!

BTW, decided to postpone the Big Sur LUP publication until after the holiday weekend, so space can be available to update everyone throughout the weekend, as needed.

  1. Memorial Day weekend is the biggest weekend at Lake Nacimiento, which is receding rapidly. Monterey County water officials have reportedly said the lake will be at “dead pool” later this summer or early fall. I have heard that the water skier, boater channel markers have been moved close together, so we have dangerous conditions out there. Anyway, I will not take my usual walk on the road leading to the boat clubs and visitor cabins this evening, even with my reflective vest and headlamp.

  2. Nice coverage Kate , I’m looking for a recient photo of the north side face of the new rain rock shed structure, can you post this if you have it ? Thanks Kate!

  3. I’ll see if I have a recent one. I really need to get updated shots, soon, so will do that and post an update.
