2:30 pm Just spoke with the Unit Chief of BEU and he told me the planned acreage is 900 acres. 70% of the perimeter is burned. The fuels on the interior are sending up all this smoke. It is going well.

I have been posting about this on FB and on WD, and realized I need to post here, as well. A fire started in the Tesla Battery Storage facility next door to the power plant in the wee hours of the morning. It has resulted in a haz mat condition for the entire area, which has closed Highway 1 and also a shelter in place order for the immediate area. 2022-09-20 06:59 Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and CHP have issued the following road closures, effective immediately, due to the Power Plant Fire: Southbound Highway 1 at Struve Rd, Northbound Highway 1 at Potrero Rd, and Dolan Rd. at Via Tanques.
2022-09-20 09:18 North County Fire Department and Monterey County Sheriff’s Office have issued a Shelter-In-Place Advisory, effective immediately until further notice, for the areas of Moss Landing West of Dolan Rd/Via Tanques, South of Struve Rd, and North of Potrero Rd. There is an ongoing hazardous materials incident in Moss Landing. Please shut your windows and turn off your ventilation systems. In the event of changing weather patterns, impacted areas may change.

As of 8:15 am – Highway 1 open. Signals at Rocky Creek are not working.
Keep an eye on the chp website to find out when highway 1 is open again. NWS is reporting additional scattered showers on and off today, so highway conditions will be subject to change all day long.

As of 11:30 pm, on Sunday 9/18/2022, the highway is closed NB at Ragged Point and SB at Point Lobos due to flooding and rock and mud slides.
As of 3 pm, I have received 1.20” and Plaskett Road is destroyed. Good thing I don’t have to go anywhere for a while…except the Post Office. I’ll call Andrew on Monday.
Defective signals at Garrapata and at Mal Paso. Traffic is a mess. At Rio Rd, I can’t figure out what this means:

As could be expected, there are rock slides and other problems on Highway One. The Big Sur crew are out clearing rocks and patrolling. Currently there is a rock slide at Coast Gallery and defective lights at Garrapata changed to traffic hazard on the reporting party says “traffic is a mess.”
I have gotten an inch of rain, and it is unrelenting.
