Flash Flood Watch

National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the Colorado, Dolan, and River Fire burn scars from 12/10/2022 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Heavy rainfall over the Dolan, Colorado, and River burn area is expected with 3 to 6 inches up to and during the period of the watch. Rain rates of up to 1 inch per hour will be possible from late Saturday morning through Saturday evening. Residents near the burn areas should prepare for potential flooding impacts. Be sure to stay up to date with information from local authorities. Heavy rainfall could trigger flash flooding of low-lying areas, urbanized street flooding, and debris flows in and near recent wildfire burn scars. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STORM ACTIVITY EXPECTED ON THE BIG SUR COAST THIS WEEKEND/CALTRANS WILL MONITOR HIGHWAY 1 TO ENSURE SAFE TRAVEL

MONTEREY COUNTY – The National Weather Service has indicated a large storm is expected to bring significant rainfall to the Big Sur Coast beginning tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 10 between 10 am and 10 pm.

This weekend, Caltrans maintenance crews will be patrolling Highway 1 during daylight hours when raining to ensure a safe condition for all travelers. This effort will be conducted with the support of our partners at the California Highway Patrol and Monterey County.

Caltrans and its partner emergency responders may close the highway if rainfall is expected to exceed the threshold for possible debris flow in the Dolan and Colorado Fire Burn scars. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for this coastal area of Monterey County.

These highway closures will be announced by Caltrans should they occur and regular updates on current conditions will be provided.  Caltrans will monitor conditions between Ragged Point near the San Luis Obispo/Monterey County Line and Palo Colorado Road.
