Amgen Tour

Don’t forget, Amgen Tour comes down the coast tomorrow. Expect some serious delays and general madness!

Following is a reminder from the Department of Transportation:

Highway 1 – Big Sur Coast AMGEN Bike Tour: May 14
Stage Four of The Amgen Tour of California Bicycle Race will move along Southbound Highway 1 from Monterey to Cambria on Wednesday, May 14.
The cyclists will leave the Monterey area heading south on Highway 1 at approximately 12 noon, and reach Cambria at approximately 3:30 pm.
The CHP will oversee these rolling highway closures for this event.
Caltrans will post electronic message signs and assist with traffic control so motorists are aware of the cyclists and support vehicles.

Big Creek Reserve Open House

Open House, May 10, 2014

UC Santa Cruz and the UC Natural Reserve System invite you to the Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve

Saturday, May 10, 2014 9am-4pm

Open House is the only day of the year that the Reserve is open to the general public. You are welcome to visit, learn what we are all about, meet the staff and tour the Reserve. We’ll have folks at the main entrance who can share their experience and knowledge with you about lots of topics. Bring hiking shoes and a sack lunch. Driving tours will not be available this year. Parking is limited to the pullout just south of the reserve gates. Park on the highway pullout and walk down to the gatehouse from there. Watch for signs out on the highway. BIG SUR MARATHON TO BE RUN ON HIGHWAY 1 THIS SUNDAY

MONTEREY COUNTY (CARMEL/BIG SUR) – The Big Sur International Marathon will be run along Highway 1 beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 27. The race will start in Big Sur and will end at Rio Road in Carmel.

Traffic on Highway 1 will be restricted from 4:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Hwy. 1 will be closed from Sycamore Canyon Road to Carmel Valley Road. While the southbound lane is closed for the race, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will use the northbound lane to lead caravans of traffic in alternating directions at three different intervals during this time. Therefore, motorists traveling in both directions should expect delays of up to two hours.

Jesse’s Celebration of Life

Paolo did a great job of getting invites out to almost everyone, but if you missed it, it will be held Saturday, March 22 at 11 at Pacific Valley School, across from Sand Dollar. Bring stories, being music, and being your best Jesse smiles to share.

BSMAAC meeting postponed

Dear MAAC members,
Based on the storm forecast of heavy winds and up to 6” of rain expected on the Big Sur coast late tonight into tomorrow morning, the MAAC meeting has been cancelled for Friday, Feb. 28th and rescheduled for Friday, March 7th at 10:00 am. Thank you for your understanding and I will look forward to seeing you next week.
