Personally, I’m hoping for that 1″ and so far … Between 3 and 9 am, I have received .36″., so it is possible. All cheerfully welcomed.

BIG SUR >> A 24-year-old man has been lost at sea after a wave swept him off the rocks at Soberanes Point on Tuesday morning.

The man was visiting Big Sur with three friends when he was swept into the ocean by a wave about 9:30 a.m. An extensive but unsuccessful search was conducted by both air and boat.

7:30 am – Between midnight and dawn I received another .65″ of rain bringing the storm total to 2.82″ – impressive and needed. Hopefully, this is just a beginning. The greatest rate of rain, after midnight, came at 2 am, when it was quite loud at 2.82″/hour. Before midnight, it was up to 4 1/2″ per hour at one point – could have been Hawaii but for the cold, down around 40 degrees most of the night. Predictions are for showers on and off today, but at the moment it is off. Enjoy the earthy smell of the after-rain.

Update – 10/31/14, 8:30 an – boy was I way off! The rain has begun … Bring it on!

Pay close attention to the Orange over Big Sur … 2-3″ expected! Base on what I’ve seen between 3 meteorologists, I’m guessing it will start between 1 and 3. Blessed Be!

Ann Wasser of the PG Museum needs you to let her know if you or a neighbor or friend has places where Monarch’s are roosting/passing through to get a good count of their numbers. They found over 500 in my eucalyptus trees this morning!

My Name is Danella Deorta. I am writing to you for help. Our Apple Pie school here in Big sur has been struggling with budget cuts and are in need of help. I am a local mother of three boys they are no longer in Apple pie but one of them did attend last year. We are trying our best to get the word out. We do not ask for much one or two dollars will go a long way. If possible people are also welcome to bring Breakfast foods down to the Apple pie school themselves. Low in sugar breakfast is what is most needed. 2% milk, cereal, bread, yogurt cottage cheese, string cheese, items like this. Here is a link to our Donation center that I just opened today. 1 pm – It started somewhere around 8 am down here … Just a drizzle that didn’t even register on the rain gauge. Eventually, it turned into a real, genuine, gentle wetness. I have currently registered .30″ – much more than I was led to expect, and each and every drop met with a welcoming smile – even down to the wet, dirty, muddy dog prints all over my hardwood floor. I’ll mop tomorrow.

OVERNIGHT REPAIR PROJECT ON HIGHWAY 1 AT MALPASO CREEK BRIDGE SOUTH OF CARMEL IS UNDERWAY

MONTEREY COUNTY– An overnight construction project to repair and protect the concrete of Malpaso Creek Bridge on Highway 1 in Monterey began this week, Caltrans officials have announced.

Overnight roadwork hours are from 6 pm to 3 pm Mondays through Thursdays from midnight to 3 pm Fridays and from 8 pm to midnight on Sundays. Work consists of installing scaffolding for the first two weeks during daytime hours between 6:30 am and 3 pm. Motorists may experience delays of up to 20 minutes during the overnight work. Electronic Message Boards will be activated to alert motorists.

The purpose of this project is to repair the damaged concrete, extract chloride and protect the concrete of Malpaso Creek Bridge. This bridge work is expected to be complete by the end of September 2015, weather permitting.

The contractor for this $994,000 project is Truesdell Corporation of California, Inc.
Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
