Couple Missing – Big Sur?

img_1715

Last seen at the Cambria General Store (I think on the 23rd) and have two large dogs traveling with them. Per a family friend- one is a male that looks like a golden retriever, the other is a male -dark brown with a black spot, similar size. Olivia’s family has been all over Cambria and posted flyers.

Satellite update

Finally have scheduled a service call for Tuesday between 11-2. Cell has been very unreliable, so until Tuesday, enforced internet withdrawals. Frankly, I needed this.

BTW, 50 acre wildfire on FHL, but reported in the “flat part’ (aka Stoney Valley?) so probably not a threat. I’ll find a way to report if necessary.

Planning Commission Agenda & Reports

Hi all,

This week’s Monterey County Planning Commission agenda for the meeting Wednesday 3/30 includes a workshop on the medical marijuana ordinance and a status report on efforts to create short term rental and event ordinances. Here is a link to a page on the County website for the Planning Department of the Resource Management Agency (boy that’s a mouthful) where you can download the agenda:

Monterey County Planning Agenda

or copy and paste the info below into your browser.

http://www.co.monterey.ca.us/government/departments-i-z/resource-management-agency-rma-/planning/committees-agendas/planning-commission/agendas-reports-2016

The agenda has active links to the staff reports for these items, and the page should provide those interested in following along and able to access video with instructions about how to watch online if you would like to do that. If you would like to attend that is fine too as these hearings are open to anyone. The public will have a chance to speak on each item (usually limited to 3 minutes though). Letters and emails are always a good way to provide your thoughts as well: I know I read them carefully, and I believe other Commissioners do too.

Best,
Martha

Search and Rescue South of Palo

Per a local who went by earlier this evening, search and rescue, ,CHP, and Sheriff are looking for one of two young men from town who were climbing the cliffs south of Palo Colorado. One fell on the rocks then went over into the ocean. Praying they find him alive.

Strange Lights Photo

This is an iPhone photo of the strange lights at least 10 people saw last Wednesday, November 5th at 6:30 and at 7:00 pm. This strange phenomena was seen by people from Cambria to Rocky Point.

This photo shows one light coming in (or going out) and another at its peak. It was taken with an iPhone only, and zoomed in, but not enhanced or changed in any way. It was submitted by Rick Borutta, but taken by his friend Eric. Eric saw the lights first, then went and got Rick.

A friend of a friend in Carmel saw and photographed the lights, too. If I can download, I will post. The Carmel person called the police, who told them to call a government agency, who told them it was under investigation, but was probably a military operation. Hmmm …

Strange Lights Sightings

I have heard this story directly from two people, and indirectly from a couple others. Anyone want to extrapolate or add to these stories? Write in the comments section if you have a strange lights story from that night or recently. I cannot confirm or deny these reports, but several of them come from people whom I believe. Are they drones? Are they flares? Are they ET?

“BTW: have you heard from anyone about last Weds. spottings of white and colored lights low in the sky from Cambria and as far north @ Rocky Point? G saw them on the south end driving back from Cayucos, I saw red and blue colored lights by Cape San Martin, P & J saw white lights off of Cowabunga (camping spot on Plaskett) and a co-worker of P’s saw yellow lights up at Rocky Point. Drones? No one was sure what they were other than being there and disappearing and coming back. This was around [6-]-6:30 pm or so for the various places. I keep asking people to get more info, but that’s all I have right now!! I’ve never seen it before! Interesting….”

Man and Woman stabbed last night in Big Sur

2:30 pm update – from a blog reader and a friend and fellow south coaster …

“I talked to Kenny Harlan @ Lucia last night on my way home from town when I saw 3 sheriff cars in his lot and had already passed LPNF engine, BSVFB engine and another vehicle at Packard beach turnout, just north of Lopez Point. He gave me some info and then I saw sheriff cars at the Willow Vista View and they were talking to campers in the lot who heard the altercation that happened at Willow Crk Beach. At that point they didn’t have the guy but they were going to go looking after getting as much info from the campers. The info they had was that a van came down from Monterey with a few people in it and they were at the beach. After some time the altercation broke out and I thought he said 2 people were stabbed, with the female driving to Lucia (who was also stabbed) to report it.”

And, as I’ve said, word is he was caught.

2:00 pm – word on the South Coast is that a suspect has been caught. Further details as they become available.

10:00 am – According to KION, the stabbings occurred approximately 9 pm last night, Oct. 3, about 5 miles from Lucia Lodge. Both victims were airlifted out due to the remoteness of the incident. There is no suspect, yet. No motive was given, and the exact location is also not provided. Others may have more information. If I find out anything additional, I will add it to this post.

Missing female -FOUND

The “lost” female posted in the comments section, which I removed, saying she never was lost, it was simply a miscommunication, and she asked that this post be removed so her name does not come up in a Google search. Rather than remove it, I have removed any identifying information, and the photos, but left the post so that readers will know there was a happy ending to this story. She also stated she kept an eye out for Arvin in her travels.

Stan Russell asked me to post this:

**** was camping alone in the Mill Creek/Nacimiento-Ferguson corridor and has gone missing.

****came to the area on Tuesday, September 16. She was going to the Mill Creek Road area. She had previously camped along Nacimiento-Ferguson Road and has a very worthy vehicle so she could be anywhere along the ridgeline of Prewitt Ridge and beyond. She called her sister from the Pacific Valley Ranger station pay phone on Sunday, September 21 letting her know her phone battery was dead and that she would be back on Tuesday, September 23.

DETAILS:
**** Blond hair, blue eyes, 5’3” 135 pounds. Driving a dark gray Toyota Land Cruiser with roof racks, snorkel, and British Columbia, Canada license plates. The steering wheel is on the right hand side (British style).
