Another Missing Dog

This is from last night:

‘We have the old Madsen place (just south of coast gallery) and Magnus Toren (from henry miller library) just came by to say hello and his son’s dog ran away about an hour ago about 6pm. It’s a friendly brown/tan 2 y.o. neutered male pit bull mix with a collar stating “Zeak Toren” with their son, Stefan Toren’s name and number (906.630.0872) on the collar (he’s on a coast guard trip). We think he headed to the highway. Our number is 667.0790 – lost at the old Madsen place across from coast gallery. Magnus’ number is 831.667. 2714. we’ve alerted the sheriff.

Huge thank you in advance,
Merriman Mathewsons

MoCo Sheriff enforcing no camping

image

On Nacimiento I counted 34 campsites on the side of the road yesterday, Saturday, between the summit and the coast. Almost all of them in dangerous locations. There is no privacy, no place for human waste, people are camped practically on top of each other. This is not camping. The road is dangerous enough just being so narrow and winding and in generally bad shape. This phenomena just adds another layer of dangerousness to an existing situation.

Big Sur Chamber Mixer

Hello Big Sur!

A quick reminder!

We are inviting you to the Big Sur Chamber of Commerce mixer. The Mixer will
be held May 24, 2016 from 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM. at Café Kevah which is located
on the first level of Nepenthe, adjacent to the The Phoenix.

The first 15-20 minutes of the mixer will be a brief history of the Big Sur
Chamber of Commerce and to let you know we will be scheduling a membership
meeting in the next 30-60 days to address the need to elect Board of
Directors, evaluate current web site goals, address Big Sur visitation level
issues, etc. Afterwards the time is available to socialize and and enjoy the
panoramic views and to reintroduce ourselves to our business associates and
neighbors.

Many thanks to Kirk Gafill and to Café Kevah for their generosity in hosting
the Big Sur Chamber of Commerce mixer.

Please help us spread the word. We hope to see you all there.

Regards,
Stan Russell

300 Acre Fire East of Soledad

8;45 pm – local media reports it is 4000 acres

8:30 pm – I have reports it is up to 1000 acres.

6:00 pm – air attack (A/A) estimates, conservatively, that fire is holding at 800 acres. At 7 pm, it was up to 900 acres. The amazing photo below was tweeted by Cal Fire. It is not mine. No photographer credit was given, but this is a great example of HDR.

5:30 pm –
5:28 PM 12 [39] CDF ADV FIRE IS ONLY AFFECTING WEST SIDE OF PINNACLES AT THIS TIME – NOT AFFECTING THE EAST SIDE // FIRE IS PUSHING SOUTH AND EAST – MAY NOT HIT THE PINNACLES FULLY // EVACUATION IS NOT IN EFFECT YET – BUT IF ANYONE FEELS THREATENED – PER CALFIRE, ADVISE THEM TO LEAVE THE AREA

here is a still from a KION news vid:

5:15 pm = second fire 1.3 miles south of the south end of the main fire.

5:00 pm – 7 tankers on the fire already and 6 more dozers just ordered.

4:30 pm – SOLEDAD, Calif. – Cal Fire crews are attempting to contain a 300-acre vegetation fire off Metz Road and Blue Jay Lane, east of Soledad.

Officials say the blaze began around 3:30 p.m.

The fire has not yet been contained. No homes or structures are in danger but there is a threat to power transmission lines.

The cause is currently unknown.
