Found Terrier-mix puppy

UPDATE – what an awesome place we live in! Only moments after I first posted this, we got a comment with a lead on the owner, and now, only hours later, Biggie has been identified as Sammie, and the owner is off to SLO on Tuesday to bring him home. Thank you ALL for taking care of each other – including our pets!

Last weekend, a traveler in our midst, from SLO, found a terrier-mix puppy running down the middle of the road on the northern end of Big Sur. she has this to say:

Hey Kate!

I found “Biggie” as I’ve been calling him at the north most end of Big Sur running down the middle of HWY 1. He is a tan wiry furred terrier with a black nose, small, about 15lbs or less and adorable. He was super scared but also very sweet and came to me when I stopped, but was skittish about being picked up. He’s never been aggressive though always loving. He is also intact. He had a brand new black color with white dog bones on it, but now tags :[ I did take him to the vet to be scanned but no microchip was found…he is a pup. 1 year max. Missy is beautiful you’re lucky! This little guy is adorable and I would love to be his owner but with school and classes I don’t have time to give him the attention and training he needs. And him not being neutered has made potty training difficult as he want to mark everything in the house…Here are some pictures of him:

I believe he’s some sort of terrier and chihuahua or dachshund mix. Possibly Cairn Terrier…I found him last Sun the 19th!

Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it. I know he would love to find his owners and if not that, his forever home.

Dog Found Me – lost dog

Well, I had quite the surprise this morning.

My routine is that when the sun comes over the hill, I get up, let the dogs out, and pee … In that order. On nice mornings, like this am, I leave the door open so any of the dogs that want to come back in, can.

After I pee, I get back in bed. Sometimes I go back to sleep, but mostly, I don’t. This morning, I heard a dog next to my bed, looked down to see which one it was, and was surprised to see a new face greeting me. Surprise, surprise …

This is the face that greeted me this morning:

She is very skinny and covered with tics. She is very sweet, comes up to me, whether I am standing or sitting, and immediately sits. I fed her two cups of dry food, which she scarfed. She would have eaten the whole bag, but I don’t want her barfing, so I’ll give her another two cups later this afternoon. We are working on the tics.

She is a border collie mix, possibly with terrier, as her coat is wiry, not silky like a BC. She has a collar, but no tags. She does not bark, and seems to come from a one dog household, as she snarls whenever one of my dogs gets near her. She has very long legs, but probably only weighs 20-25 lbs – not sure as I haven’t tried to pick her up. She is patient with the tic picking, so far, and doesn’t object, at all.

If anyone recognizes this dog, please call me at 831-818-8026. I am sure there is a heartbroken owner somewhere. She immediately took to me, so she seems to be well-loved – or just so grateful for a place and food out of the wild. Pass the word. I will post this to FB and Wild Big Sur, also, so it can be easily shared. Much as I am taken with this dog, and would easily add her to my pack, I am happy to reunite her with her owner.

Dakota, 4/27/09

Dakota had her second surgery today.  Today’s surgery was to remove the dead tissue, and not nearly as long and difficult as the first one. She gets to come home tomorrow, but has to be on bed rest for a couple weeks, and she might have to have a third surgery, depending on how this one heals. Keep us in your thoughts just a little bit longer. Thanks.
