First Saturdays at the Grange

New Big Sur Fire Chief.
Dear Friends,
As the Big Sur Fire Board of Directors has decided to implement their succession plan please join me in welcoming Deputy Chief Matt Harris when he assumes the position of Chief on January 1, 2019.
I have so appreciated all of your help, friendship and support over the years, in particular after the devastating Pfeiffer Fire.
I know you all will be equally supportive of Matt going forward and he will make an excellent Chief!
After 42 years in EMS, 14 with the American Red Cross Big Sur Ambulance and almost 28 with Big Sur Fire, wearing a pager and being on call 24/7, I will now see how “normal” people live. You may no longer even recognize me without driving my white Big Sur Fire truck, and yes Nadine, I will now wear another color besides blue!
Sincerely,
Martha Karstens
Chief

Monterey County has a new app available to download to your iPhone (don’t know re android) or iPad. It was announced at the BSMAAC meeting, and thanks to Anni Agren, I now have that app on my phone. Just search for Monterey County Connect. It is free. (Note, there is a place to report graffiti, as well as a place for road information and events.) Can’t wait to use it!

UPDATE: Polar and her owner, Derek Waters were reunited this afternoon. Thanks everyone for all the help!
Know this dog and who her owner is?
”I’m a ranger with State Parks here in Big Sur. This morning, someone dropped a big white dog named Polar at the Pfeiffer Big Sur kiosk. She weighs about 100 pounds and has a rabies vaccine tag from Grass Valley and 707 and 831 phone numbers, neither of which were answered. The good samaritan said he found her walking on Hwy. 1 near the Henry Miller Library.”

At least this one is making a donation to the Mid-Coast Fire Brigade for our troubles, but still…
Good morning!
