HIGHWAY 1/ROCKY CREEK VIADUCT PROJECT CONTINUES WITH DAYTIME ROADWORK AND INTERMITTENT OVERNIGHT CLOSURES

Daytime roadwork on Highway 1 continues next week from 7 am to 5 pm Monday, March 18 through Friday, March 22.

Overnight closures next week are as follows:
· Sunday, March 17 through Thursday, March 21—9 pm to 7am—full closure each night; details are as follows:
o Sunday, March 17 through Monday, 18 (7 am)—full closure will be the usual project limits;
o Monday, March 18 through Thursday, March 21 (Friday 7am)—EXTENDED full closure will begin just north of Rocky Point Restaurant to the usual project limits;
Bridge work being done on Sunday night is girder prep work. Monday through Thursday overnight work is girder installation. The 90-ft long girder delivery trucks need to back up to install girders—therefore necessitating the extended full closure from just north of Rocky Point Restaurant to the project limits.

NOTE: Residents will be allowed to get through the 2-mile section between Rocky Point Restaurant and the project limits during the overnight full closures from Monday through Thursday night (Friday am)

Highway 1 at Rocky Creek has one-way signalized traffic control 24/7. Traffic will be stopped for 10 minutes at a time during daytime roadwork. Full overnight closures will be scheduled five nights a week Sundays through Thursdays, unless otherwise indicated. No overnight closures will occur on Friday/ Saturday nights.

The project to construct a permanent viaduct about 15 miles south of Carmel near the Rocky Creek Bridge began on Sept. 4. Completion is scheduled by Labor Day, weather permitting. Daily roadwork schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions and other factors so stay tuned for regular updates.

Road Updates

Training exercises are going on at Ft. Hunter Leggett, so Nacimiento is closed for up to an hour at a time, random days and times, on the East side of Big Sur, where the base and USFS borders join and on the eastern side of the base at Nacimiento and Mission Rd. this is in effect now until March 9th.

On Rocky Creek, overnight closures are complicated, but not total. Sunday, March 3rd thru Wednesday, March 6th, there will be 10 minute closures from 9 pm to 11 pm, then 1/2 hour closures from 11 pm to 7am. Thursday, March 7th there will be a hard closure from 10 pm until 7 am Friday morning.

Okay, got that now?

BTW, some technical difficulties of an unknown source. I am not getting ANY emails on my iPad, from home or abroad. I am still getting them on my iPhone, though. I am having trouble with sundry other apps on my iPad, but not all, and some I can’t get at home, I get while abroad on the coast. More troubleshooting is in order, I guess! If I can’t figure it out, I guess I’ll have to take my iPad in to Verizon or Apple. I love technology!

After a day and a half of that, for some bizzare reason, I am now getting emails on my iPad, again. Who knows what happened?

Working to save Highway from itself, and Mother Nature

Following is a photojournal of my trip north Wednesday. Three construction areas, we had to traverse. This is why we don’t go north much right now.

It is not just the stopping for 10 minutes, or more, EACH, it is getting in a line of cars from which one cannot escape!

Finally, Rocky Creek.

Defective signals at Bixby Bridge?

Well, that makes no sense, as there are no signals at Bixby Bridge, so I am assuming … Rightly or wrongly .. That the CHP website means Rocky Creek. Are they again? Or did someone run the light, or someone fail to trigger the sensor? Only the Shadow knows …
