Such a sweet gathering yesterday of north and south to honor and celebrate the life of Paul Vieregge. Seven years ago, I remember attending he and Penny’s 50th wedding anniversary at the same spot. I have lots of photos, and hope to upload some at some point to this post, but I really have a tremendous amount of work over the next few days, PLUS my son is down from Oregon, staying in Monterey for a few days, so I need to get up there to see him. Few “dull” moments in my world right now.

And two of my most favorite ladies: Penny & Peggy.

Nature’s Garden
BTW, it is RAINING up here on Saturday morning. Not pouring, just a nice soft, gentle drizzle, but rain, none-the-less.
It matters not how many times I come down my road, it is an ever-changing exquisiteness. This is some of the latest.

And here are a couple shots of Pacific Valley Center’s garden. I love the rocks!

A spate of winter-like weather
Normally, in June, I can look down on the fog. Not the last few days. Low clouds have been hanging over me as if it were winter. I want to put my comforter back on the bed, but alas, I packed it away for the summer. Of course, this will help delay fire season, so it is all good.
I have been trying to upload a photo all morning, and no luck. I give up.

Well, finally. Not one I would normally post, but …
This is my new storage shelf, 2 ft. deep. Soon I will have baskets, old trunks, and old suitcases to store stuff in up there. I’ll take another, once I have it organized as I want.
That’s my comforter up in the corner, out of reach, naturally. I had a tall person place it up there, and now need a ladder or another really tall person to get it down!! Any real tall volunteers? Just kidding. I’ll survive.
Now that I can post photos again, I just can’t stop.

Maybe I should have replaced the lavender before I shot this? And dusted.

Can you tell I am a knick knack collector?? It’s a addiction. I need an intervention.
JOY!!

And here’s my fire clearance:

And here is that trimmed up Oak tree I wrote about. Can you tell what came today??

Then I looked around my cottage. And guess what I found?
This:

My mom gave me the clown. Rose bought us all the little donkeys to remind us of the donkey trip up the side of the mountain.
I also found this:

and this:

So, does this satisfy our photography fix for a while?? Not mine. It’s just a start.
I’ve got to work, so the garden photos will come when they do.
The Mystery of Plaskett Ridge Rd.

A blog is no good without photos. Without my camera (but not for much longer!) I have gone into my flickr archives to find this one which I thought you might like.
This was taken on Plaskett Ridge Rd. in the fog. On days like this one can imagine the elves and fairies playing and hiding among the fog-covered trees.

Fire season will start in no time, and this blog could become very active for the summer. (If I am lucky, it won’t.) Come July, I will have been blogging for one year, almost every day, sometimes many times a day. It is time for a short break.
While I can, before the fire season starts, I am taking a vacation — the exotic locales of Morocco and Greece. I leave in a few days, and will be back Memorial Day weekend. I haven’t decided if I will take my laptop, or not, so unsure if I will be blogging.
Look for a Big Sur update on Memorial Day weekend, when I’ll be stopping in our little village to meet friends on my way home. In the meantime, may you have a glorious May. (BTW, Dakota update below — #714.)
Redbud & Blue

In honor of Earth Day, as I was a little preoccupied yesterday.
I planted this amazing redbud in the corner of my garden. I babied it for years, as they usually like more water. But, over the years, it has gradually become very drought tolerant.
Here, it is pictured in its between time, when it still has the buds, but is beginning to leaf out.

What can I say, that Mother Nature hasn’t said better?
And more wildflowers
I tried. I really tried to narrow down my wildflower photos, but darn, they are just going off, right now. Particularly the blue bonnet lupine – you know the short little ones that are so bright, they almost hurt one’s eyes? Yeah, those ones. I still haven’t finished posting my others, and here I am with new ones!!

Oh, you see a lowly poppy here, as well as the popcorn flower (I really must learn its botanical name) as well as the lovely legume, vetch. Yup, that is the ocean in the background.
You’ll probably be tired of bright blue lupines (aka blue bonnets) when I am finished with this post. Probably, but not me. They are around such a relatively short time, and this way, we can look at them all year!
It used to take me only 1/2 an hour to get down to the highway. I cannot do it in less than an hour, now-a-days. Gee, I wonder why?
Isn’t that one of the most gorgeous things you’ve ever seen? And why are we surprised that all the city folk want to come here? Where else can they see something like this? Now, if we could teach them that those fields they want to tear up with their 4×4 when there are no flowers could all look like this if they stayed on the road, we’d make some progress! This one used to get torn up, but the USFS set up a ditch and a berm to prevent off-roading, which is not allowed up here.
Okay, I have more, but I guess I will change hues. Don’t want you getting bored. Here is some clover, not owl’s clover, which I’ve seen, but not much of.

Some of these are not as clear as they could be, as it was a VERY windy day when I took these. They were in a relatively sheltered area, or none of them would have been clear.
Okay, and how about the lovely Flannel Bush? Yellow goes well with blue, don’t you think? This one is located at Pacific Valley School, in Gail’s front garden. I’ve asked for seeds, but, as I recall (I’ll have to look it up) this may be one of the seeds that I have to put in a tray and set fire too for it to germinate. See, fire does play a roll.
I think that is all for tonight. Tomorrow, I have off. I am meeting friends for a variety of activities throughout the day. This weekend, I’ll be putting up “No trespassing” signs so that people can have fun tearing them down. It’s what they do, up here in the wilds of Big Sur. I guess they think nobody has the right to be as lucky as I am.

Sorry, I could not help myself. I so love these lupines! Promise, this is the last one, at least, today.
Back to the Wildflowers
Some sun up here today, and I understand good weather for the weekend and next week, prolonging the wildflower displays, I venture to guess.
