Carmel Area State Parks General Plan

This meeting addresses the proposed combination state park to include, generally speaking, Carmel Monastery Beach, Carmel River, and Point Lobos, as well as an eastward expansion. I encourage you to go to the link provided to see what the preferred alternative is and how you can make comments regarding this proposal. This is along the Highway One corridor and the gateway to Big Sur so-to-speak.

You’re Invited to a Public Open House on the Preferred
Alternative for the Carmel Area State Parks General Plan

Please join us at the next public open house for the Carmel Area State Parks (CASP) General Plan (GP) and Environmental Impact Report (EIR) at the Rancho Canada Golf Club’s Wedgewood Wedding & Banquet Center, 4860 Carmel Valley Road, Carmel from 6:00 – 9:00pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2016.

At the open house, you will learn about the preferred alternative proposed for the Preliminary GP and Draft EIR. Thank you to everyone who participated in the July 2015 public workshop and who also submitted comments on the proposed alternatives. The State Parks planning team reviewed all feedback in depth and further analyzed the factors affecting the identification of a preferred alternative. The planning team will be presenting the preferred alternative that has been crafted with your comments and concerns in mind. The open house will consist of a short presentation and will be followed by an opportunity to learn more about the preferred alternative at unit breakout stations.

A newsletter has been prepared to share more information about the open house and some of the key components of the preferred alternative.

Here is the link to the newsletter, which also contains further links: Newsletter

Please Attend this Important Public Open House to Learn More About the CASP Preferred Alternative. We Hope to See You There!

Open house materials, including the Economic Study and Traffic and Parking Study, will be posted on the project website for your review about two weeks before the open house. Written comments can be submitted during the open house, via regular mail to the address listed on the CASP General Plan website, or via email (plan.general@parks.ca.gov). The comment deadline is June 15th.

Please forward this email to others who may be interested.

Amgen Tour

AMGEN BICYCLE TOUR IN SANTA BARBARA/MONTEREY COUNTIES

CENTRAL COAST – Stages Three and Four of The Amgen Bicycle Tour will move through Santa Barbara and Monterey Counties this month in the following locations:
On Tuesday, May 17, the cyclists will travel west on State Route 150 and State Route 192 in Santa Barbara County completing their ride on Gibraltar Road. The cyclists will begin at 11 am.
On Wednesday, May 18, the cyclists will travel north on State Route 1 from Morro Bay in San Luis Obispo County to the Carmel area in Monterey County. The cyclists will begin at 10 am.
The CHP will oversee these rolling highway closures for this event. Caltrans will post electronic message signs and assist with traffic control so motorists are aware of the cyclists and support vehicles. The public may learn more about this event at: http://www.amgentourofcalifornia.com/

CVR Closure

Carmel Valley RD. Is closed until 10:30-11:00 due to a traffic accident, possible fatality.

According to CHP, the car was speeding and went off the road, down a 20 ft embankment and into a shed. There are downed wires on CVR, so that is the reason for the hard closure of the road. It looks like it will be closed until 10:30 or so. They also have to cut a tree down to get to the car.

Fires, 4/28/16

at 2:45 pm – a fire broke out near King City. It is reportedly black smoke, so possible structure fire.

Around 3 pm, Cal Fire and AA were dispatched to a brush fire about 3 miles north of the Paso Robles Airport.

Around 2 pm – a wildfire was reported at Casitas and 33 in Ventura Co. LPNF sent a full wild land fire response. This one is named Casitas and has an IC. It is reported at 20 acres.
