4:00 – This is Dave Allen’s take on these storms. Wind advisory start now!
Sweet! Look what’s coming:
1:30 – wind advisory just issued.
1:00 pm – in town. Rained on and off most of the way here, but hasn’t been any rain in town for last hour. At Jeep dealer, as it won’t go into Low Range, even though all of that was serviced a month ago! I’m not a happy camper, as it is impossible to come DOWN Plaskett in the mud without 4x4low. Did make it this am because I left early, it hadn’t rained but .2″ so not too muddy. Only slid 3 times!!
Sycamore Canyon closed to all but residents. PG & E warning about possible outages due to high winds and downed trees. Treat all downed wires as live, but you all know the drill. Be safe everyone!
7:30 am – It arrived at 7:25, earlier than expected. I was planning on getting out of here around 10, now, I may want to make that a bit earlier! It is currently raining at the rate of .22″ per hour. Watch for updates through out the day, but I will be traveling north, so updates will be sporadic.

Don Harlan ( the original road warrior)’s theory of Big Sur’s rain patterns may be proving itself once again. He always said if we got little rain in December, watch out in March!

Fire Season vs. Rainy Season
Twice a year, the links on this blog change. (See links to the right.) Normally, we switch from fire season to rainy season links in November. This fire season went on WAY LONGER than expected, and thus we are just now changing back to the weather links we usually have up for this time of year. If you have a favorite weather link not listed, share it with us.
BTW, at 10 am I have .06″ of rain, and like virtually everyone in California, I am enjoying every one-hundredth of an inch!
This is the predicted rainfall through Saturday night, starting this afternoon in the North Bay and reaching us by tonight.see that little purple spot on the bottom, before the county line? That’s approximately where I am -indicating 2″.
Road Conditions.
11:55 am – CHP reporting flooding at Deetjen’s Bridge and rock slides near Big Creek.
11:45 am – Sycamore Canyon Road is closed due to debris flow. Blaze Engineering is there clearing it as I type.

The Wonderful sound of wet!
11:45 am – 1.24″. 1/2 hour ago the maimum rain rate per hour was 1.5″. My cute weather station keep flashing back between that and “It’s raining cats ‘n dogs.” A computer with a sense of humor!
10:00 am – .70″ YAY! Wow, the AT&T Pro Am at Pebble Beach suspended play and brought in the players due to the weather!
I woke at 4:00 am to .08″ of rain, and now, at 7:30 am it is up to .28″. Even the dogs didn’t want to stay out very long, and one refused to go out at all! Let us hope this continues, although NOAA is expecting the rain to taper off by noon or earlier. As all us Californians know, any little bit is greatly applauded.
Storms
At 9:30 this evening there were reports of rain in Santa Cruz, and accidents at the Summit of 17. If true, it is arriving early, but a very welcome guest that we’d like to stick around!
Rain Reports on Super Bowl Sunday
10:15 am – snow being reported by a neighbor on the other side of the ridge north of me. WOW! None here, but up to .25″ of glorious wet stuff!
8:15 am – it started here! Real, honest-to-goodness rain! Couldn’t be happier!
At 8:00 am, rain is being reported from Elkhorn Slough to Ventana. None here yet, but it is dark, damp, and stormy. Now, if it was just night we would have a literary clique. All 5 dogs went outside at 7 am, but now, they are happy to be inside. Have only 33 degrees with wind chill factored in. This am’s weather report from NOAA says we could get up to 5″ of snow in the higher elevations of the Santa Lucia Mountains. I am not expected to experience any. Also, thunderstorms are very possible this afternoon. Could be a very fun day!
