Santa Lucia Weather Report

It was 10:30 at night. I turned off the TV in preparation for bed, and heard some unusual sounds. I looked at the windows – nothing. I got up and l looked out the front door – rain. I checked my weather station – 38 degrees with wind chill down to 33. Inside, I let the fire die down, as it was over 80.

All together, I got .44″ of the life-source, but no snow. Winds got up to 42 mph. At 9:30 am, it is 33 outside, wind chill bringing it down to 27. Blue skies peek through the clouds. The road is muddy and slick, and trees are probably down due to the winds. I have our yearly ladies holiday luncheon, but with road conditions, doesn’t look like I’ll risk it.

Rain Report, 11/21/13

6:30 am – By midnight last night, my weather station only reported .44″. At 3:00 am, I got another one hundredth. It is supposed to continue today, but so far just drizzle, no rain. There is also some indication of possible rain on Thanksgiving. We will see as that event approaches.

Rain

Glorious rain! Hope it keeps up all day and night! At 9:40am, I have measured .32″. The current hourly rate is .18″ I and the dogs are all dry and cozy in bed. How is the rain where you are?

BTW, there is a chance of thunderstorms with this system, starting this afternoon.

New and Improved Weather Report

UPDATE 10/29 – total for the storm, .26, as of 7:00, but my gauge is indicating I just got .01″ as I was typing this.

For my first new and improved weather report: it rained last night, it was windy last night, and still gusts up to 25 mph this am. No, seriously, I have some figures for you. I even took photos of the readings on my station, but can’t seem to get them mailed to myself, so I’ll summarize. Overnight, I got .10″ but .08″ came at one time, at around the same time as the maximum wind; maximum wind was 39 mph at 2:49 am; low temp was 39 with a wind chill factor of 32. It is only 42 degrees currently, at 8:30 am.

Okay, I promise, I won’t give a blow-by-blow report throughout the winter – only significant events. I’m just a gal playing with her new toy this am! Really, pretty nice, gentle storm for the first of the season. Hmmm … To build a fire, or not build a fire … It is 61 degrees inside.

Since I wrote the above, a long time ago, another .05″ has fallen, for a total of .17″ for the storm. I built a fire and it is up to 73 this afternoon. Fur kids and I tucked in – warm, dry, and cozy!

Winter Weather Station

I just bought myself a wonderful weather station. It does it all. Hoping to install the outside station late this afternoon.

Looking forward to getting much more accurate results, and rain totals in the .01ths, instead of .1s. And wind speeds up to 150 mph! We don’t get those really high winds every winter, but whatever we get, I’ll be able to accurately measure!

Rain expected Wednesday

We have rain coming our way … Always welcome, but not enough to end the fire season yet.

No word on Jade Festival, although Park Management posted today that they are still closed, and asked everyone to contact Lois Capp in either SLO or DC.

Happy Labor Day sprinkles

I am happy to report that we had sprinkles from the Big Sur Valley to the South Coast last night/this morning. We also have a lot of clouds down here, and I see rain out over the ocean I also have sunshine sparkling in places.

I have been informed that the highway is a nightmare, and if it is also wet, it is slippery with 8 months of oily build-up, so be safe this Labor Day.

Wet? As In Rain?

5:00 pm – I am sitting here watching rain out over the ocean, directly out from me – don’t know if it is making it all the way down, but trying to will it to come onshore!

I went to let the dogs out at first light today, and huh?? My deck was all wet! Some of the dust was washed off my Jeep – not all just some. I didn’t hear a thing, so hopefully no dry lightning, because this little bit of moisture couldn’t keep a fire at bay.

Weather, 7/2/13

The Bay Area NWS modified today’s forecast to include a slight possibility of rain, which i noted on twitter. I don’t know why I was up at 5:30, but I happened to glance out my window westward several minutes later (7 or 8) and saw what I thought was two lightning strikes. Then I thought I was hallucinating, but I tweeted Bay Area NWS anyway, and they said:

@bigsurkate Our lightning detection network just showed two strikes off the Big Sur Coast.. You’re not imagining.

Later, NWSBayArea said they were about 60 miles out.

Yesterday at 9:00 am, the outside temp recorded as 105 F. Last night it got below 85 for the first time since Friday – a cool 82. Needless-to-say, sleep is a hard commodity to come by.

Storm Coming in.

8:00 pm – I LOVE the sound of the rain! We are so thirsty!,,

7:00 pm – I didn’t think much of this storm, so haven’t followed it closely, but the tell-tale winds tonight let me know it was coming, and then, letting the cats out at 7:00, the drizzle let me the front was just beginning to arrive. I’ll check my usual sources, and let you know what I find out. I know SLO, was predicting this morning that it wouldn’t go much south of Paso.
