Don’s Map

Not as good as Mike’s from a couple days ago.
I shot this before 8 pm (everything rises earlier and sets later up here.) I don’t have a working tripod, so it’s the best I can do, but given what NOAA had to say about fog everywhere tonight, I thought those of you who couldn’t see it, might want to. I’ll get a moonrise shot, if I can.
Updated:

Maybe Mike will post his shot tonight. My moon set from this morning is a tad blurry, or I’d add that. 😉
Mike here. Unfortunately we were fogged in again and I could not venture to a spot where this magnificent moon is visible. Here is the moon from August 8 taken from Rio Road in Carmel. For those fortunate enough to be able to take in this rare moon event, congratulations!

After 20 years, and dealing with all kinds, I have made friends with the regulars. Most even wave to me. Generally, they sleep on cots outdoors, not tents, don’t have campfires, and finally respect me, my land, and my critters.
Last night, I ran into a different breed.
I ran into a UFSF patrol, a guy I have known forever, he even went to our school. He told me about these guys camped outside my gate, and how he had asked them – nay, told them – to move. I ran into them, also, still on private property. They confirmed “oh yeah, we are leaving.” I went around a corner, they went out of sight, and I saw they had left their tent and two chairs set up. I honked and honked. They ignored me.
I grabbed the small pop-up tent, the two chairs, and loaded them in my Jeep. I took them down past the private property to a flat spot right next to the road and unloaded them. I left a note.
I let my neighbor know, my dog sitter, checked my .357 and took out the snake shot and put in .38 hollow points. I was ready. It didn’t hurt that I will have the Ox, and the ex-Marine Mountain Man here at 7 am.
Really, nothing new, just haven’t had to deal with these kinds of idiots in 10 years or more. I do have a great early warning system in my dogs – NO ONE, and I mean NO one can sneak up on me here -EVER.
I do finally find guys like this funny. They really think they will find deer up near my property where there are 5 dogs barking, scenting, and otherwise warning? The deer don’t even come into my garden!
I am pleased to be able to continue for a while longer offering both Africa and Big Sur photographs. After 6 years, I am running out of Big Sur images and places I have not posted before, so I have the choice of publishing re-runs or just Africa in the near future. I have many more African photos I can share. Stay tuned to see what I decide …

This is the last installment of Don’s history. There is a hard to read map I will post next week, but it can’t be divided in two easily, will be small, and Don’s handwriting isn’t the easiest.

Just for BigSurNation, I put a (c) on my Big Sur photo. 😉

And here is another Cheetah, as I just love this beautiful cat!

I have had a very full week between dogs, vehicles, and workers. Next week promises to be the same. I am still keeping an eye on things, just not publishing much beyond any emergencies this week and next, then back to the usual, I hope.
