Lost Dog – Highlands

Hi, I am reaching out to your for your help. I hear you have been successful in reuniting lost animals with owners.

I live on Spindrift and a family and their 2 dogs that were evacuated from the valley are staying with us. Around noon today, one of the dogs ran out the front door all the way to Hwy. 1 and turned left in front of the Highlands Inn. Many people saw him as he continued down to the general store and began running up Corona Rd. At this point we lost sight of him. He’s a very friendly cream Bichon whose name is Chase but his tag says Chewy.

Can you offer any assistance of getting the word out? We would so appreciate it. The owner is Aubrey and her number is (831) 818-1799.

Here is a photo of Chase:

Reminder regarding Overuse and Loving Big Sur to death

Yesterday, I went down the hill. I saw vehicles and campers everywhere, off-road, cutting through fences and installed barriers to get where they wanted to go. And when I came home, most of them were gone, leaving large amounts of tp and trash behind. image

I just want to take this opportunity to remind all that I have created two separate pages, where I am collecting photographs Loving Big Sur to death and data and suggestions on the Overuse of Big Sur Page. I add to both of these several times a week, usually. Some of you are checking these regularly, others seem to have forgotten. The discussion continues and gains momentum on social media sites.  Per readers, these links do not work (and I cannot figure out why – they work for me!) but don’t despair – these same links are up above in the “Info” post and to the right under pages. Those DO work!

Lost Dog – Gorda Mountain, Big Sur-FOUND!

Shortly after I posted this, Maya found her way home. Her humans were so relieved. It was only a few days earlier that they lost Maya’s companion, the 13-year-old dog. Maybe she went looking for her friend … Anyway, enjoy the rain. Storm report later.

Lost Dog (Big Sur near Gorda Mt.)
Our sweet Australian Shepherd/Rottweiler mix female dog went missing today. She is almost 3 years old and her name is Maya. She did not have her collar on but does have a microchip! She was last seen March 6th, Sunday morning near her house on Gorda Mt. (near the Cruickshank Trail), Big Sur. There were a lot of hikers today. We are very worried and really want her back so please help us get her home. Call Tafay or Josh : H:805-927-5674, C: 831-238-0112, C: 831-915-6570, Email: tafay@me.com.
Thank you!!!

Deetjen’s cat, Fabio, missing

Some of you saw this on my FB page, but Deetjen’s asked me to also post it here so it can get as much coverage as possible.

For those of you following this, great news!

UPDATE ON BORDER COLLIE!!!!!!!
Chief has been found! A friend of the locals found him, and returned him to his very happy owner, at approximately 7 a.m. Sat. morning. It was the most wonderful sight to wake up to! I’m the campground host at Plaskett and she has gone everywhere and talked to everyone about her dog. When she seen him running up, she screamed of joy, “That’s my dog!” and everyone in our campground heard her excitement and our campers all began clapping with joy! They are reunited once again. Thank you Irish

And thank you Denise for sharing this with all my caring, dog-loving readers!

Lost Border Collie

Having had Missy show up, this is close to my heart. It might even be a clue as to how she got here, but her owner(s) didn’t go to the extent this one is going.

Hi Kate! I have a request for you to put an APB out for a lost Border Collie who took off from Plaskett Campground last night around 9:30 pm because of a loud bang or shots or whatever the noise was that made him flee. His name is, “Chief”, is typical black and white, 6 years old and very friendly. He’s tagged, chipped and been reported to MoCo Animal whatever, law enforcement and posters have been hung.

Locals in the area have been alerted. I hope he is as smart as Missy, and finds a dog person to help him!

Deer Season in the Wilds of Big Sur

After 20 years, and dealing with all kinds, I have made friends with the regulars. Most even wave to me. Generally, they sleep on cots outdoors, not tents, don’t have campfires, and finally respect me, my land, and my critters.

Last night, I ran into a different breed.

I ran into a UFSF patrol, a guy I have known forever, he even went to our school. He told me about these guys camped outside my gate, and how he had asked them – nay, told them – to move. I ran into them, also, still on private property. They confirmed “oh yeah, we are leaving.” I went around a corner, they went out of sight, and I saw they had left their tent and two chairs set up. I honked and honked. They ignored me.

I grabbed the small pop-up tent, the two chairs, and loaded them in my Jeep. I took them down past the private property to a flat spot right next to the road and unloaded them. I left a note.

I let my neighbor know, my dog sitter, checked my .357 and took out the snake shot and put in .38 hollow points. I was ready. It didn’t hurt that I will have the Ox, and the ex-Marine Mountain Man here at 7 am.

Really, nothing new, just haven’t had to deal with these kinds of idiots in 10 years or more. I do have a great early warning system in my dogs – NO ONE, and I mean NO one can sneak up on me here -EVER.

I do finally find guys like this funny. They really think they will find deer up near my property where there are 5 dogs barking, scenting, and otherwise warning? The deer don’t even come into my garden!

Lost Dog, Pine Ridge Trail, LPNF, FOUND!

Happy Day for his owners. Becky just called to relay the good news. Some hikers from Big Sur to China Camp found him on a trail about a mile from there and relayed him to other hikers. That’s super!

Missy is doing well, still having some issues with the other dogs and cats and me, but we are working on them!
